LASERMAX UNI-GREEN
Rail-Mount Laser Goes Green
The U.S. Military has been converting to green lasers. The peak sensitivity of the human eye is to green. We can see green at longer ranges and under a wider variety of lighting conditions than we can see red. LaserMax has recently come out with the long-awaited green laser version of its versatile Uni-Max rail-mounted laser sighting system—the 532 nm Uni-Green. LaserMax recently provided S.W.A.T. with one of the first production Uni-Green lasers for evaluation.

RED DOT DOWN!
What To Do When the Red Dot Sight Fails
The current leaders in the red dot sight (RDS) business—Aimpoint and EOTech—produce dependable electro-optical sights to enhance the trigger pullers’ lethality in the fight. However, nothing is perfect. From the RDS perspective, bad batteries, bad circuitry or damage will all have an adverse effect on RDS performance. If you rely on the RDS for a living, you need to be prepared for an RDS failure. Here are some strategies for doing just that.

WAKING THE DEAD
Arms Tech USRT Rebuild
S.W.A.T. readers probably remember the Project Phoenix article that detailed a firearms restoration venture after editor Denny Hansen’s house burned to the ground. Denny lost a lot of prized firearms during this fire. One of the AR-style rifles was deemed “too far gone” to be restored. But the owner of Arms Tech Ltd. decided he wanted a shot at restoring the rifle. Behold the finished restoration project – you won’t believe your eyes.

ARMED AND UNARMED COMBATIVES
Innovative Tactical Concepts’ Advanced Pistol Fighting
Innovative Tactical Concepts is a relative newcomer to the tactical training community. Founded by Brian LaMaster and Tim Davis, ITC prides itself on teaching a comprehensive armed and unarmed self-defense system. The author recently attended the Advanced Pistol Fighting course at ITC and found every notion he had of fighting with a gun challenged by the course.

FROM THE MIDDLE EAST TO MIDDLE AMERICA
Galil Rifles, Texas Style
There are a number of firearm manufacturers producing Galil-like semiautomatic rifles in 7.62x39mm. The author’s highly biased opinion is that the finest Galil imposter in the world is manufactured by Elite Firearms in Hurst, Texas. Dave Michener owns Elite Firearms, and his Elite Galil AR 7.62x39mm version possesses a quality, fit and finish that are head and shoulders above those of its Israeli predecessor. Even better, it still retains the original’s propensity for reliability and durability.

TRAINING WITH LASERS
See the Light!
The controversy over laser sights has been argued many times. But if you’re serious about firearms training, you should believe in and use lasers. The reason is that, no matter how you feel about their utility as fighting tools, their value as training tools is unarguably clear. Used properly in a training context, lasers are extraordinary tools to make good shooters better and “fix” problem shooters more quickly than just about any traditional method.

AID FROM ABOVE
Role of the Helicopter in Counter-Terrorist Operations
The helicopter performs a wide array of tactical tasks for the counter-terrorist (CT) unit, to the extent that virtually every major unit in the world either has dedicated helicopter support or special ops helicopter assets that train regularly with the CT unit. The author examines the various roles the chopper plays as part of a CT unit.
by Leroy Thompson

SR9 HIGH-CAPACITY 9MM
Ruger’s First Striker-Fired Pistol
Founded 59 years ago, Sturm, Ruger & Company is one of the most successful firearms manufacturers in American history. A lot has changed since Bill Ruger designed and sold the first Ruger Standard semiautomatic .22 caliber pistol in 1949, and the company has changed with the times. One of the newest offerings from Ruger is the SR9 9mm semiautomatic pistol. It is the first striker-fired design to be made by Ruger. S.W.A.T. recently received one for test and evaluation, and gleefully put it through its paces.

BLACKWATER FIVE-DAY TACTICAL PISTOL/CARBINE CLASS
Superior Instruction at State-of-the-Art Facility
From its immense facility to its top-notch instructors to its on-site armory and even on-site lodging, everything at Blackwater is impressive. The author attended Blackwater’s five-day Tactical Pistol/Carbine class and calls it maximum bang for your training buck.
by Ken Hanson

SINGLE-HAND MANIPULATIONS
Part 1: Semi-Auto Handguns
There are many fighting scenarios in which a high possibility of having a hand or arm injured exists. But as long as you’ve prepared in advance, having a hand or arm out of commission doesn’t mean you’re out of the fight. Hand and arm injuries are common, yet the techniques for operating your pistol with only one hand are an area often ignored in our training and practice. The author covers drawing, firing, reloading and clearing malfunctions with one hand.
