Way Of The Gun
The Zen of International Tactical Training Seminars
ITTS is undoubtedly one of the Tier 1 tactical training schools in the U.S. What can you expect when you sign up for a course? ITTS is unique in that, beyond the technical aspects of firing a weapon accurately, beyond working through an evolution with surgical precision and speed, beyond imparting to students the tactical mindset needed to get through a gunfight safely and righteously, there is an underlying “way of the gun” taught by head instructor Scott Reitz. It is a philosophy of gunfighting – and one could say living–that Reitz tries to instill in his students. This “way” gets down to the very essence of being in a brutal, ugly gunfight–being in the moment of life-or-death and surviving.

Black Rifle Blues
The Re-Education of Jim Zumbo
Sorry, we're not going to spoil it and tell you what author Jim Zumbo has to say for himself after getting a taste of black rifle goodness. You'll have to read the article to find out. And if you've been living under a rock and don't know what the fuss is about, don't worry; the author details the whole ugly scenario from the beginning.

Make Sure That You Are Making Sure
Loading and Chambered Round Verification
Loading a firearm makes that particular weapon ready to use. That use may run the full spectrum from defense of your life/the life of a third person, to hunting, putting that projectile in the middle of a piece of paper in competition, or just plinking.

Whatever the use, if that weapon is not loaded properly, you will be unable to complete your intended action. The result of your negligence may run the gamut from looking stupid to being dead.

The author details the loading sequence for pistols, carbines and rifles that he teaches to students and why he teaches it that way.

Get A Grip!
Complete Guide to Knife Grips
Any time you use a hand-held weapon, the grip you take on that weapon is a major determining factor in how effectively you can use it. If you can hold a weapon well, you have little hope of employing it well. Over the years, much has been written about knife fighting grips and their significance to both the offensive and defensive use of the knife. While books and articles can provide good background knowledge, ultimately a good combative knife grip means a functional combative knife grip. And the best information the author has found on this subject was obtained by watching talented knife players in action and experimenting with various grips in full-force training. Here he shares what he's learned over the years.

Austria's Cobra
Elite Response to Terrorism
In the early 1970s, the Austrian government realized there was a need for a new type of special tactical unit to be used in the fight against dangerous terrorists. Created in April 1973 within the Federal Gendarmerie force and headed by Brigadier Johannes Pechter, Einsatzkommando COBRA was given the principal task of leading the Austrian tactical combat against terrorism. The author goes inside this elite unit to learn more about their missions, weapons and training.

Tools For The Edge
Gear for Vertical Tactical Work
These days it's common to see SWAT officers carrying double or even triple-redundancy tactical items on their raid vests, from knives to eye protection. Yet teams who plan to use rappelling as a option in their operations often neglect contingency plans for this risky environment. Once locked onto a rope, it can be surprisingly easy to trap oneself in a situation where retreat is difficult, dangerous or even impossible.

Some of the more common problems encountered on rope have simple remedies if you have practiced and have the right gear. This article is not a tutorial in ropework techniques, but an overview of several gear items a rappel master might wish to consider learning about in depth and possibly selecting for use with his team.

Doing The Double Tap Down In Mozambique
Return with us now to the good old pre-PC days of the Mozambique Drill. All together now:

Mozambique him, Mozambique him
If he fails to hit the ground
After two well-placed rounds!
Shoot between the eyes and lips,
No, NOT between the hips,
That should put the goblin down!

(FYI, there's much more to the article than song lyrics.)
