As we continue to fight the war on terror overseas, more and more Americans are becoming aware of the fact that we may someday need to face the enemy here at home. To prepare for that dark possibility, many individuals are taking advanced weapons training courses to prepare themselves with weapons and tactics better suited for high-threat encounters.
In addition to covering some of the better known firearm academies, S.W.A.T. will occasionally feature schools of lesser notoriety. One such institute is the FARM, located just thirty miles southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah, and featured in this issue. Courses offered there include marksmanship and tactics and rifles, handguns and shotguns. Competition shooting, like the 3-gun match at Tac-Pro Shooting Center featured here, can also hone one's skill.
Being proficient with firearms, however, is just the beginning to ensure your loved ones' safety. To that end, we have included a feature on first responder trauma gear, should someone in your party become injured. Proper treatment in the first crucial minutes after such an incident is well known to be essential.
For those considering body armor purchase or re-supply, be aware of the fact that not all products are created equal. In this issue, we provide an in-depth feature on the controversy currently brewing over Zylon soft body armor. Be informed of the facts before making an expensive purchase. Caveat Emptor!
Additionally, we review two new lightweight rifles: Bushmaster's Carbon 15 and the Beretta Storm. Both of these weapons represent significant departures from the norm. Find out if they have what it takes to survive in your world.
All this and much more awaits in our June issue.
