editorial overview

“When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.” Thus it is that savvy operators realize that a firearm is only one implement in the “tactical toolbox.”
An individual’s mindset is one of the most important aspects to overcoming a lethal force encounter. This includes situational awareness, a working knowledge of basic tactics and the willingness to do whatever is necessary to win the fight. Having a Plan A is a good start, and having a Plan B is even better—but the realization that both may go to hell in a hand-basket once the fertilizer hits the oscillator is equally important. A good tactician must be able to think on his feet and adapt to changing, dynamic situations as they evolve.
This is why S.WA.T. is not just another “gun magazine.” The June issue alone features articles on everything from an advanced sniper school, to the Israeli method of civilian handgun training. What if you are not armed? Not to worry, as there are three articles on unarmed self-defense tactics, and if things really go downhill we have a feature article discussing the concept of ditch medicine, enabling a trained operator to treat serious trauma in the field. There has never been a better time to start filling your tactical toolbox.
