| “Need an accurate reliable
gun...you get what you pay for.” This is an all too often
heard sentiment. Sadly, some of our fellow gun-owners put too much
stock in the price of their equipment.
In the current issue we evaluate one “inferior” rifle
and take a close look at a controversy involving two others—the
Remington Model 710 rifle and the ongoing debate on whether the
Mossberg 500 is equal to the venerable Remington 870 in the role
of a fighting shotgun. The conclusions reached by our authors on
the above firearms may surprise you.
Learning how to operate a firearm proficiently is far more important
than the initial price tag. To that end, you'll find a number of
excellent training articles in this issue.
And so what about the Keyboard Experts? Frankly, they would be
well advised to remember the old adage, “It’s not the
size of the man in the fight—it’s the size of the fight
in the man.”

Remington’s Model 710: Ready For
Use Right Out Of The Box
If the Remington 700 is considered by some the to be Cadillac of bolt-action
rifles, then the Model 710 could be considered the Chevy of the same
class. But how will this synthetic-stocked bolt gun work for those
on a tight budget? Our field test showed it's up to the challenge—and
then some. |

Kimber’s Compact Stainless
II: Does It Make the Grade?
With a match-grade bull barrel fitted to the slide we knew that accuracy
would suffice, but compact 1911-type pistols have a reputation for
less than perfect reliability. Nineteen different factory loads and
500 rounds later, however, proved that the compact Kimber is worthy
of consideration for serious carry. |
